🛠️ Supplies Needed

Containers: Small, clear plastic food containers with matching transparent lids (like Tupperware or takeout containers).

Soil Mix: 50% high-quality potting soil (sifted to remove large chunks) and 50% drainage material (perlite or coarse quartz sand).Water: Distilled water or boiled tap water allowed to cool.

Sterilization: A microwave-safe bowl or a microwave.Fungicide (Optional): 3% hydrogen peroxide.

Step-by-Step Germination 📋🌱

1. GuidePrepare the Soil: Mix your soil and perlite/sand evenly.

2. Sterilize the Media: Put the moist soil mix into a microwave-safe container and microwave it for 2 to 3 minutes until it steams. This step kills fungus gnat larvae, mold spores, and algae. Let it cool completely down to room temperature.

3.Fill the Containers: Poke 2–4 tiny drainage holes in the bottom of your takeout containers. Fill them with about 2 inches of the cooled, sterilized soil. Lightly press the surface down so it is flat but not compacted.

4. Sow the Seeds: Scatter the seeds evenly across the surface. Do not bury them. Cactus seeds need light to germinate. Press them very gently into the dirt so they make good contact with the moisture.

5. Moisten and Seal: Mist the surface lightly with water (or a mix of water and a splash of hydrogen peroxide to deter mold). The soil should be damp like a wrung-out sponge, not muddy. Snap the clear lid on tight to seal in 100% of the humidity.

6. Set the Environment: Place the container in a warm spot (70°F to 85°F / 21°C to 29°C) that gets bright, indirect light. A windowsill without direct afternoon sun or a basic T5 fluorescent/LED grow light works perfectly.

☀️ Lighting: Avoid direct, hot sunlight. If the seedlings turn dark red or purple, they are getting too much light. If they look skinny, tall, and pale, they need more light. You want them to look like bright green little footballs.

🍄 Preventing Mold: If you see white fuzz developing inside the sealed container, lightly spray the affected area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. It kills the mold on contact without hurting the seedlings.
